Eating Junk Food — The Hidden Price
June 28, 2008, 10:15 pmYou probably are very familiar with the benefits you get from NOT eating healthy. You get to eat food that tastes good, you get to be lazy and sit on the couch and veg out and watch TV. You get to not do all the hard work of exercise. There are many other benefits that people get from not eating healthy, and many others that I probably did not list. I am not going to list them all, because you know most of them. I will list the benefits most people do not want to admit, often, even to themselves.
There are four main benefits that you probably get from not eating healthy, that you don’t want to admit (along with the obvious ones):
1. Avoiding being responsible
2. Getting to be right and making others wrong
3. Dominating others and avoiding domination
4. Justifying yourself and invalidating others.
These things are the hidden benefits. I will talk about each of them in more detail, and explain what I mean. You have to dig down and be honest, though. These four things are usually true for everyone, and the point of my sharing them is to make you aware of them, and for you to be honest with yourself about them. Most people do not think of these things as benefits. But if you look at them and are really honest with yourself, you will see the benefit people get from them.
People get to avoid being responsible by putting the responsibility on the medical symptoms and disease care system. You live under the illusion that they will create a magic pill or invent some technique or system to make you thin and healthy without you having to do a thing. They are responsible for your health, not you. It is an illusion many of us believe. Because then we get to avoid being responsible for our own health and eat anything we want. We get to do what we want, and then blame all of our symptoms on someone else.
You get to be right and do exactly what you want. You don’t have to listen to all those doctors, all those people, especially that annoying “health freak” in your family. Every family usually has one. You get to be right about being able to do what you want. You get to make them wrong. And don’t we all enjoy making someone we don’t like so very wrong? We all want to be right and I can prove it. Have you every seen someone try and prove themselves wrong? Argue that they are not right? People love to be right and that includes being right with being able to eat whatever they want for whatever reasons they want.
You get to dominate others, and avoid others’ dominating you. You do not have to do what they say. You can do what you want. You can probably even control people and make them angry by doing things your way, by doing what you want.
You get to justify yourself and invalidate others. You get proof for yourself that what you are doing is right. You get evidence that the way you are doing it is right. You get to make sure that other people’s way of thinking is wrong, and make sure they know you know they are wrong.
These are the hidden benefits that many people get for not eating healthy. Benefits that, if you are honest with yourself, you like getting as well.
What I am also going to point out is the not-so-obvious cost of not being healthy. There are benefits to eating junk food. But, as you know, nothing in life is free. If there is a benefit, there is a cost. What most people do not see is the cost, the price you have to pay for the benefits you are getting.
There are also tons and tons of hidden costs that most people never see. I will list some of the biggest ones. This is the price you have to pay to eating junk food:
1. Vitality
2. An abundance of energy to do everything you want to do
3. Happiness
4. Love and closeness with others
5. Satisfaction and fulfillment in life
6. Healing symptoms and disease
7. Symptoms and disease going away,
8. Relief from the suffering that goes with the symptoms and disease
9. Inner peace and harmony
10. Being symptom- and disease-free
11. Mental focus, memory, and clarity (no brain fog)
12. Being awake and fully alive every day (not just dragging through stuff and surviving)
13. Being present and having the ability to be with people
14. No worry or fear
15. Being confident in yourself
16. Being complete and happy
17. The ability to deal with issues that arise simply and with ease
18. Having better health now, with security for yourself and your family later
19. More time to do what you want to do
20. Simpler choices
21. Looking great, feeling good, reducing fat, and having tons of energy
22. Being satisfied and Not being hungry all the time
The list goes on and on, but these are some of the big ones.
These are all things you do NOT get if you avoid eating healthy. It is the price you have to pay to not eat healthy.
If you are eating healthy, these same things are your rewards. These are the things you get when you are well. These things show up in your life as you are being healthy and well. So much so, that I want you to think of your own reasons why, things vital to your happiness, freedom and life that you know you would get you out of bed for in the morning wanting to eat healthy

Breaking Down Your Goals

“A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.”
Wise words? But what do they mean to someone who is trying to achieve their goals in life? That’s what we’ll be talking about in this article.
I am sure that you have some big goals in your life. Perhaps you want a mansion in the countryside, a sports car, or your own boat.
I am also sure that you may well be looking at this goal and thinking “How the hell am I going to get that?”
And this is where our wise philosopher comes into play.
Pick one of your major goals that you don’t know how to achieve and examine it more closely. Think about the goal and you will realise that it is made up of a number of smaller goals, each of which is in turn made up of other smaller goals.
Grab a piece of paper, write down a major goal at the top, and below it, write down the steps you can take to achieve this goal. In effect, each of these steps represents a mini-goal, and each of these mini-goals can be broken down further if necessary into more manageable chunks.
Do not become obsessed with achieving each minor step on your way to the major goal. You may find that some steps can be skipped, some become unnecessary, and that new steps appear. Review these minor steps regularly as they will change often.
Now you’ve just done this quick exercise, and you should never leave the scene of a decision without taking some action, so go do something to get yourself on the path to your goal!
An example may be that you want to buy a farm in the country. You know nothing about farms. You may break your goal down into something like:
1) Find out about farming – is it for me and what does it involve?
2) What sort of farms are there and which type do I want?
3) What is the best area for the type of farm that I want?
4) How much money do I need to buy the farm

…
…
Buy the farm
This is a very simple illustration of breaking down your goals. Each one of these may be broken down further into actions you can take.
Now you realise, that the journey towards a goal starts with a single step, and is made up of many steps.

Lawnmowers and How to Save Work Installing Synthetic Turf on Tennis Courts
June 17, 2008, 5:22 pmWhy install synthetic turf instead of real lawn? Most of the following steps are not required when you choose to install synthetic surfaces rather than a traditional one. A court should have a slope of a few inches from one end to the other to carry off water. After the level is determined, all there is to making a court is to fill in or cut away soil and earth until the proper level space is obtained. As a rule it is better to dig away for
a court rather than to fill in, as we thus obtain a better bottom and one that will require but little rolling. In the case of a slope, it is well so to locate the court that the amount of earth excavated from one end will be just about sufficient to fill in the other.
The final surfacing of a court is done by means of clay and sand in the proportion of about four or five to one, the clay of course being in excess. To mix clay and sand thoroughly, the former should first be pulverized thoroughly when dry and the mixture sifted over the court carefully and evenly. The next step is rolling and wetting, and more
rolling and wetting until finally the whole is allowed to dry and is ready for play. The slight irregularities and roller ridges that often appear in a court will soon be worn off by the players’ feet, but playing of course will not change the grade. A new court will be
greatly improved by use, but no one should be allowed on a court except with rubber-soled shoes. Heeled shoes will soon ruin a court, and it is bad practice even to allow any one to walk over a court unless with proper footwear.
Leveling The Playing Court
The preliminary leveling of a court can be accomplished with a rake and a straight-edged board, but after the clay has become packed and hard it will be necessary to use considerable force in scraping off the inequalities. A metal cutting edge, such as a hoe or scraper, will be found useful. A court should be swept with a coarse broom to
distribute the fine material evenly. Another very good sweeper can be made from a piece of wood about six or eight feet long to which several thicknesses of bagging have been tacked or fastened. The final step in making a court consists in marking it out.
Since most courts are marked so that they will be suitable either for singles or doubles or so that either two or four people can play at a time. Where tape markers are to be used, the proper distances will appear on the tape without measuring, but if lime is used for marking a careful plotting will be necessary to secure the proper distances, after which the corners should be indicated by angle irons, so that the court may be
re-marked at any time without re-measuring. Remember that synthetic turfs are almost free maintenance surfaces, and will save you time and money at long last.

The first computer addresses a piece of information to another computer and then sends it across the cable that connects computers to one another. The second computer checks the addresses of all of the messages coming by and reads only the messages addressed to it.
Live football stream is achieved with the help of streaming media. This concept is not as foreign as it sounds and it simply acts like an ordinary television or a radio broadcast that streams live football matches. When you wish to view a certain live football stream, a programme called a “streaming media server” breaks up the desired file into pieces called “packets”.
These packets race across the Internet one at a time and get reassembled back into your computer the same way. Providing you have a fast internet connection and the server is not overloaded, the live football streams will begin playing instantly on your PC and the file size is generally small.
Unfortunately, like most good things, there is a drawback to using football streams to get your fix of live action. Since it is live and should be delivered just in time across the potentially unpredictable internet network, quality is sacrificed in order to enhance speed and performance. Even though the main use of streaming video is web delivery, this type is not suited for local presentations.
To view live football steams, your computer requires a special program, called a streaming media plug-in. These plug-in programs are generally free and can be downloaded from the internet.
The difference between downloading video from the internet and watching a live football stream is that the user doesn’t need to wait for the entire media file to download before it can get viewed. While the quality may not be perfect, a live football stream appears to begin to play almost instantly.

The Moon: One Small Step For Man – One Giant Bill For America
June 13, 2008, 8:49 amGoing to the moon again is causing far more controversy today than it could have back in the sixties. Some Americans doubt we can afford it and others are not sure they have seen the “giant leap for mankind” that the first moon shot promised. It depends on who you ask but don’t dare ask me. I didn’t think the first moon landing had much significance for reasons that few people share with me.
President Bush announced an ambitious plan to return to the moon by 2013-15 near the birthplace of modern flight, Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. The centenary of flight celebrations was held in Kill Devil Hills in December of 2003 where the President will announced plans to allow NASA to offer up its best to the effort. With funding from congress to supplement their 15.5 billion dollar existing budget NASA will have to do a great deal of aggressive re-tooling and budget squeezing to pull it off by the proposed deadline.
I have talked to MIT and Harvard grads who still think that if a rocket whizzes by you in space it makes a whooshing sound much like a jet craft does in the atmosphere. Someone forgot to tell them there is no sound where there is no air. So what, you say?
Some of these grads are aware that even if we could travel at warp 9 (Star Trek’s imaginary multiplication of the speed of light) that it would take about one hundred thousand years to make the edge of the Milky Way Galaxy and upon return, the earth would be about 1.2 million years older than it is today. But why harp on the small stuff.
Only once since I began a twenty year fascination with Einstein’s time/light theory have I heard from anyone connected to NASA who dared to address this fact to a sublimely ignorant public. He was hushed up in the slow lane with indifference and a public that couldn’t tell you how the world can make it through the next decade without imploding. With a list of almost infinite problems how can we think of getting people out that far, much less plan for the return of our astronauts after 4000 generations of time.
I’m not anti-science, in fact I think our world has only improved because of it. But science should be no less immune from a serious reality check than was the church in the dark ages. I believe in the bible , and I’m sure it gives us only a very short time to the second coming of Christ. But even at that I would never put the bible against science. I am satisfied that science is the book of how, and the bible is the book of why.
Being a bible believing Christian I also have another view about space travel. It is hard to believe that every Christian may not agree with me. Until the cost of getting to the moon is more affordable if ever, I think the money could be spent more effectively right here on earth and we could be satisfied with singing the official state song of Vermont which is Moonlight in Vermont.
Almost every starving child in the world could be fed and clothed for a decade for the cost of sending up only one moon shot. My bible, my conscience, my common sense and every bone in my body says that would be a far better way to spend the fifteen billion bucks.
I know there are those who will think this is a preposterous proposal and perhaps it is. So I will offer yet one more proposal that I think is on the same level as sticking America with a fifteen billion dollar bill just to bring back a few moon rocks. We could look for that cow, you know, the one who jumped over the moon. We could train his aim for a while so he could hit the darned moon next time. He could jump back with the rocks and dust for our scientists to look over and we’d save a bundle of taxpayers cash.
“Blue moon I saw you standing alone, without a dream in your heart” Watch out, we’re back!
