Zynga the First for Mobile Poker? RedKing Thinks Not
January 15, 2009, 11:08 am
There have been several reports this week of online gaming mogul Zynga being the first to offer live poker on a mobile device. And while the game may catch on pretty quickly as the free online poker alternative for mobile devices they’re a week late for claiming the status of first.
Redkings poker has already released an application for mobile devices along with a compatibility list of phones that will run the application.
The difference is that Zynga is extremely prevalent on the gigantic social networking sites MySpace and Facebook which may be the reason RedKings flew under the radar. Zynga’s “Free Poker” is also a non-cash based application while players under the RedKing logo can bet real money at the virtual tables.
Perhaps the most defining difference is the fact that the Zynga version is a “first” for the popular iPhone.
It makes sense that several US phone providers don’t offer applications such as RedKing for real money poker as the UIGEA, but hopefully sooner rather than later Congress will get something done about that and the citizens of the US can join in the mobile gambling craze that’s sure to take hold in this technologically driven market.
The app is currently being sold in an upgraded form for 9.99 but iPhone users can try the app for free in a limited form.

Travel Alaska… An Adventure of a Lifetime
January 15, 2009, 10:40 amSo you’re like John Locke of the TV series Lost and simply (literally) dying for an adventure. Or maybe you’re just bored to death and you want to experience more of life. Have no fear… no need to travel across the globe to taste adventure in the wilds of Africa or the rainforests of South America. Why should you when you’ve got Alaska. Alaska… the 49th state and fondly known as the Land of the Midnight Sun and The Last Frontier.
Most people believe that Alaska, a name which comes from an Aleut word meaning “land that’s not an island” is simply tundra in the middle of nowhere because of it’s distance from the lower 48 states and because most of the stories you hear about it are usually related to the cold and snow and so-called vast, desolate, open spaces. But you thought wrong.
Alaska – the largest state (by land mass) is also one of the least populated – is a land that combines the beautiful snowy scenery of the Alps with the challenge of an adventure trip to the Congo.
Don’t believe me?
That’s okay because I’ve got proof.
River Fishing When someone mentions Alaska, people usually visualize a land of ice and frozen desert. So it’s a bit hard to imagine people being able to fish in such a place. But like I mentioned earlier, Alaska is a place filled with adventure, a place well worth traveling to.
For your Alaska fishing adventure, you can try your luck at hooking any of a variety of prized fish like: Silver Salmon in Resurrection Bay during August and September, the King Salmon of the Lower Kenai River from May to July or Red (Sockeye) Salmon, Dolly Varden and Rainbow Trout in the Upper Kenai River.
Rafting Yes, you can raft to your hearts’ content and pretend you’re a lone wanderer having an adventure in the midst of the vast array of Alaskan wildlife. Travel and encounter the many natural wonders of Alaska. Listen to the stories of the natives. Catch a glimpse of moose and bald eagles as you hold on for dear life while traversing the rapids of Kenai River Canyon – a trip that is highly recommended and one that you don’t want to miss.
Backpacking This is an adventure you must grab because there’s virtually nothing that compares to backpacking in Alaska. You can of course choose your own adventure travel destination: Brooks Range, Artic Refuge, Talkeetna Mountains, and Wrangell-St. Elias to name just a few.
Sea Kayaking This not so common adventure is one that only traveling to Alaska can bestow upon you. This is not for the feint of heart and make sure, that you don’t attempt this alone.
Expeditions to Walrus Island So you haven’t seen any of those furry adorable creatures up close? Find yourself aching for more of a marine adventure rather than a landlocked one? Or perhaps you’re content to simply watch. Have no fear because Alaska’s Walrus Island has it all. You can view walrus, other marine mammals and rare bird species from the comfortable deck of a cruising yacht. But if you want a bit more of a challenge, you can take a hiking trip and see more of the Alaskan wildlife.
Dog Sledding This is probably the most popular sport in Alaska and an adventure worth telling your grandchildren, great grandchildren, friends, barber or whoever will listen. If you so choose, you can simply watch the dog sled races or try it out yourself by mushing your own team. The Siberian huskies, are highly trained so there’s no need to worry about your safety. Plus, if you have the time, you can also visit the renowned author, husky owner and Alaskan original Mary Shields.
Fjord Exploration If you’ve ever dreamed of experiencing the sheer scale of an honest-to-goodness glacier that the pages of a book or movie screen just can’t convey then Alaska is the place to be? Unless, of course you prefer Greenland or Iceland for your icy adventure. I think not… and just another of many reasons why we should be thankful for the great State of Alaska.
So… are you now convinced that traveling to Alaska is an adventure that you must not miss? I sure hope so because if you’re not – what’s wrong with you. Just kidding, however before making reservations be sure you’ve got everything you need like clothes for wide range of temperatures and a comfortable pair of hiking boots.
And clearly… compare the available travel packages being offered by the travel agencies that cater to Alaska or you can make your own travel itinerary and then simply hire a guide to assist you along the way. A great place to start planning your trip is Alaska – The Last Frontier. A website dedicated to being a complete resource on Alaska.
Have a great trip and enjoy everything that Alaska has to offer!

Farewell To Lagos -The Story Of A Final Farewell
January 15, 2009, 4:43 amIn 1962 the two of us waited to board the Mail Boat the M.V. “Accra”, bound for Liverpool from Lagos, West Africa. My daughter was three years old. The port was a teeming mass of humanity including local traders who plied their wares, many of them women. As always their baskets were supported on their heads. The aroma of spices pervaded the air along with the indescribable smell of Africa itself. Stalls were set up in every available space, however small. Immediately next to a display of pots and pans, fruit and vegetables nestled beside sweet pastries. Brightly coloured fabrics clamoured for attention alongside a variety of glorious rugs. Just a few yards on, a vendor extolled the virtues of his coffee beans, inviting everyone to sample them. All the traders considered their wares to be the best in the world: the juiciest water melons, the largest prawns, the thickest rugs, the richest coffee, the choicest pastries, the heaviest tapestries.
Amidst all the hustle and bustle we slowly worked our way forward towards the gangway. Finally we were on board where a stewardess showed us to our cabin. After unpacking we went up on deck. Beverley anxiously scanned the faces on the dock, looking for her Daddy. “There he is, there he is”, she shouted excitedly. He was frantically waving to attract our attention. Everyone had now boarded and the ship prepared to sail. Suddenly I heard the sound of “Rule Britannia” which I discovered would be played every time we arrived at and left port.. Everybody waved their final “Goodbyes” before settling down to 13 days at sea.
I remember feeling dreadfully seasick but fortunately it didn’t affect Beverley. After a couple of days I suddenly felt much better. I mentioned this to a woman I’d started chatting to each day and she burst out laughing. “You idiot ! We’ve been docked for two hours !” We’d arrived at Sierra Leone, Freetown, still on the West Coast of Africa. The harbour was most impressive, surrounded by mountains. The ship was there for just a couple of hours whilst it took on cargo and more fuel. Once again we listened to “Rule Britannia” as the ship majestically departed from the harbour. To my relief I no longer suffered from seasickness and started to enjoy the voyage. I wondered why I’d never travelled by ship before instead of waiting until my very last trip from Lagos to England.
I was astonished at the wonderful food that was served in the splendid dining room. The ship offered all the services I would have associated with a cruise. We all changed for dinner of course, nothing too grand or formal but something a little dressy or smart. I went to lots of cocktail and other drinks parties but all the officers thought they were God’s gift to woman. I could have happily stayed on board travelling backwards and forwards forever. Of course I was very young at the time.
Beverley had a wonderful time but can’t remember anything about it now. She was with me all day and in the evenings a stewardess kept a close eye on her and would call me if necessary. Forgot to mention that I met a “sugar Daddy” who promised me an all expenses paid holiday anywhere in the world with my daughter – no strings attached !! When I refused he never spoke to me again – so much for “no strings attached!”.
We finally docked at Liverpool and said our fond farewells to people we’d met and took home some very happy memories. My next trip would be to Benghazi, Libya, but that’s another story.

Taking a Risk: Gambling Saloon Card-Playing
January 15, 2009, 4:33 amAssuming that you haven’t grasped betting house wagering, read on —
By general definition a gambling house is a structure that offers gaming. Paying Customers will be encouraged to relax handling one armed bandits or trying out a slew of other betting games. Betting house games ordinarily include well calculated odds built in which make sure the company holds on to its against the gambling fans. Very many betting saloon games can incite you into being hooked quickly. Let’s reflect on the standard one-armed-bandit, a coin operated contraption with 3 or more drums which pivot when a handle hitched to it is yanked. The instrument routinely returns in accordance with predefined patterns of glyphs shown on the panel of the gadget. Regrettably, betting establishment games offer the illusion of mental power, effectively conning the gaming aficionado — the addressee is handed decisions, but in reality they won’t nix the gamer’s statistical negative odds. This is caused by the the betting establishment never repaying the full amount as hoped for. This system can typically be seen at work in well-known casino games such as seven-card stud poker, craps, roulette or blackjack.
Five-card stud poker is indisputably an incredibly popular casino game. The guests, holding fully guarded hands, bet into a principal pot that is given to the prevailing gamester holding the winning set of cards. (As everybody knows, the shameless bluff may well prevail too.) Resembling five-card stud, blackjack is likewise an incredibly trendy casino pastime. A generous portion of its is due to its peculiar mix of chance and skill and choice making, as well as a practise termed Card Counting. It is a complex technique by which gamblers will skew the arm of chance of the game for their own ends both by betting and fundamental opetations according to the cards dealt. Craps is a well known gambling hall pastime utilizing the roll of a couple of dice. Customers wager on the outcome of of 1 cycle, or on a series of cycles on two dice. In contrast to blackjack, there is no viable bona fide winner strategy you could use to improve the odds. Roulette is an extremely popular casino game. A croupier revolves a roulette wheel encompassing a set of thirty seven (as applicable to classical roulette) or exactly 38 (applies to American roulette) differently tagged cells in which a rolling pellet will settle, thereby establishing the final winning number as well as the other chances that will go along with it. Assuming that a gamester has put money on a particular number and is successful, which is to say they’ve got a lucky hand, the ward is thirty-five to one, the initial bet itself is given back. Thus it is multiplied by a factor of thirty-six.
Make a point of being very vigilant nonetheless because such gaming establishment gambling pastimes are especially addictive. A lot of lives have been ruined through addictive gambling and albeit it arguably can be fun, seek to regulate yourself.
